There is no point beating around the bush. I believe that, right now, the world is my oyster. Given this, I have had no hesitation in beginning to make plans to dive headfirst into its Kilpatrick and Natural goodness.
What's the point of opportunity if you are not going to make the most of it?
I have been lucky enough to have undertaken some travel already and at every turn i was met with wonder and enchantment. It is simply by doing something you are not used to that you are able to appreciate everything new. When you are somewhere new you are compelled to look upwards, you feel like reading plaques and signs, you want to ask questions and you want to share experiences with other people. I felt that being overseas and exploring brought out a more confident, determined and overall better person in me. And I am well overdue to let him out again.
As well as this, i have realised that everything always works out. No matter what. Even if you need to call home from Avignon because you are in bank overdraft. Even if you have to dance at a contiki camp site to have enough coin to buy a drink for the next game of King's Cup. Things always work out.
Sydney has been good to me. And i know it always will be good to me and will always be home. I got lost in streets in the Rocks last week i never knew existed and was blown away again by the harbour city but the time has come for a more permanent move to take place.
I know i have been blessed with home life. Mum literally will not let me cook because she loves it so much and Dad's OCD with the washing means that my clothes are always crisp, clean and ready to go. Who knows how well i will cope with this independence and
The next few months and their means will be dedicated to a very special end. Money will be saved, reckless nights in the Cross avoided, hard work encouraged and travel plans discussed at length. I will be chasing love, adventure, fun and excitement in San Jose.
The shackles of routine have grown rusty and it is time to break free and let myself soar.
Those of you lucky enough to have met my lovely Laura will also clearly see another motive. what can i say? she is a super special, wonderful lady and we are going to be trying to make this work. without her, i would not be doing this.
The visa i will be applying for will allow me to work in the US for 12 months, should i stay that long. the world awaits and who knows how long i will spend in the USA and whether i will end up teaching english in japan, pulling beers in london, back in Sydney or anywhere else. The sky is the limit and it is sizzling with opportunity.
Through this means i plan to keep friends updated on what i am doing and how i am going and also quench some of my passion for writing. nothing is confirmed yet but the bristling of hope itches at the side of my neck with thoughts of coachella, burning man, burgers in sausalito, In'n'out whenever i want, the city which is forever calling my name (New York), baseball, hockey, independence, san diego, yosemite, joshua tree, Oakland (kidding), San Francisco a mere train ride away, jazzy music holes, drinks and dinners. As well as this, i will be able to gain a more refined knowledge of the most amazing, copied, desirable culture in the world. I want to find out what makes America so special, what makes Americans tick and why the rest of the world hang on their every word.
Bring it on world. Streetlamp amber, Wanderlust.
